selected title insurance agent data call from PA Insurance Department

We received a data call from the Department today.  Among other things it says:

"The Pennsylvania Insurance Department(the "Department") is conducting a study of title insurance in Pennsylvania.  The study is under the direct supervision and control of the Department; it is being funded by the Title Insurance Rating Bureau of Pennsylvania as the Department's statistical agent for collection of data on title insurance, and it is being conducted jointly by Regulatory Research Corporation (Dr. Nelson R. Lipshultz) and Birny Birnbaum Consulting Inc. (Birny Birnbaum) (the "consultants")."

This should be interesting for the industry - a good exercise.

So is this a survey to fill out or did you get an actual visit? What kind of questions are they asking?

It's an extensive survey. The data request is online. I'll post a link.

Thank you for posting the link Diane, greatly appreciated. Wow, really extensive, worse than a business tax return, good luck, I know you will represent us well.

Thanks, Anon. It is intense, especially since the data compilation doesn't match what we usually track. We're having to go back and look at each file and HUD to build a massive model of data for years 2005 thru 2009. Thankfully most files are scanned, however the job is massive and we really don't have that much time to accomplish it.

I still remain positive about the study because I believe it is necessary for our regulators to have hard data on which to analyze the agency business.

As I've said from the beginning, if an industry refuses to police itself, well, someone's got to do it. There's too much money at stake.

I thought it's a personal base survey
